Rationale

“Men are mortal. So are ideas. An Idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering. Otherwise both will wither and die.”

B.R. Ambedkar

The photograph represents the slow death of the economy, this is portrayed by the content of the photograph, the dying Arum.

I have chosen to make the photographs start very large then slowly shrink until the last photograph is tiny. I have intended the first photograph to be viewed from a far distance making the photo a very open image to everyone and making people view it from further away as it is not disturbing. Though the smallest photo people must come very close to view it as it would be disturbing to look as from further away, just like it would be disturbing to not be able to see what is happening with the economy. I decided to make the sequence to to very very small as i believe when the economic crisis was at its worst it became very acknowledged and everyone viewed it very closely. This is why i have printed the last image very very small and had the sequence get smaller as people viewed the economy closer and closer as it became worse and worse.

I have presented the photographs unmounted and only taped to the wall to show the effects of the economic crisis. This showing the effects of the crisis salary-wise by not mounting the photos.

I decided to not have much content in the photograph as it could be distracting from the topic as the photo is trying to state a point rather than look pretty.

These photographs can be seen as alot of different things depending on the title embedded with the photograph. I have chosen to use this quote by this former Indian president to relate the photograph to the economic crisis. Without a title this photograph will just be seen as a photograph relating to death as the photograph itself is a dying Arum (Flower representing death). This photograph does some have some elements of death embedded in it but not so much physically.

Final

“Men are mortal. So are ideas. An Idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering. Otherwise both will wither and die.”

B.R. Ambedkar

I choose to expand my own story, for the story i have chosen this quote.

I have mostly pushed the idea of the economic crisis.

No Food
No drink
in the rooms
in the bus.

There is no food
there is no drink
for people without a room
and cannot afford the bus!

The Second Coming

The Second Coming
William Bulter Yeats

Turning and turning in the widening gyre

The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand;

Surely the Second Coming is at hand.

The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out

When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi

Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,

A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,

Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it

Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

The darkness drops again but now I know

That twenty centuries of stony sleep

Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,

Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
